CORRIDOR NOTES
Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.
From Atlanta to Chico is about 2,520 miles and 37 to 38 hours behind the wheel, one of the full cross-country hauls we run. Our crews head west out of metro Atlanta on I-20 through Birmingham, cut northwest on I-22 to Memphis, then settle onto I-40 West for the long middle through Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Albuquerque and Flagstaff. Past Barstow we climb the Central Valley on I-5 and pull off toward Chico and the northern Sacramento Valley.
Murdock’s is an owner-operated carrier, not a broker, running on our own DOT authority (USDOT 3421940, MC 1416634) out of yards in Chico, Yuba City and Sacramento, so Chico is home turf for us. The truck and crew that pack your home in Georgia are the same ones who unload it here. There is no warehouse transfer and no shared trailer with other families' shipments. On a run this length we build in a realistic multi-day transit and keep you posted on arrival so you can meet the truck.

DESTINATION BRIEF
Chico is a true university town, home to California State University, Chico, and that gives it an energy and walkability you don't expect from a valley city of around 100,000. Downtown is compact and lively with independent shops, restaurants and a strong arts and music scene, and the whole place is anchored by Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country at roughly 3,670 acres of trails, swimming holes and creekside oak groves running right up into the foothills.
For someone leaving Atlanta, Chico is a big change of pace: smaller, greener in a golden-foothills way, and dramatically more affordable than coastal California, with median home prices well below the state average. Neighborhoods each have their own character. The Avenues offer historic bungalows near downtown and campus, California Park is family-oriented around a small lake, and newer master-planned areas like Meriam Park and Westside Place add contemporary options. The community has also spent recent years rebuilding and welcoming neighbors after the wildfires that reshaped the surrounding foothills, and that resilience is part of the local identity.
A move into Chico usually means houses with yards, older tree-lined streets near the university, and easy access to the foothills for hiking and the Sacramento River for the water. Our crews know the tight Avenues streets and the newer developments alike, and we scope stairs, carries and access when we book so the day goes smoothly.
