The haul from Charlotte to Chico is a genuine coast-to-coast move of roughly 2,700 miles, and Murdock’s Moving & Storage runs it on our own USDOT authority — the same truck and the same crew that loads your home in the Carolinas is the crew that carries your boxes up the front steps in Chico. Loading typically starts in the Charlotte area off I-77, and from there we drop onto I-40 West, crossing the Great Smoky foothills, Nashville, Memphis, and the long stretch through Arkansas, Oklahoma and the high desert of New Mexico and Arizona.

Once the truck reaches California it turns north on I-5 and CA-99, running the length of the Sacramento Valley past Sacramento and Yuba City before pulling into Chico. Realistic transit on a run this long is about six to eight days depending on weather over the mountain passes and federal drive-time limits, and because a single Murdock’s crew stays with the load the whole way, we can give you a tight delivery window instead of the open-ended "sometime in the next three weeks" spread that brokered long-distance moves are known for.

Chico is a college town at the northern edge of the Sacramento Valley, built around California State University, Chico and anchored by one of the largest municipal parks in the country. Newcomers moving from Charlotte tend to be surprised at how walkable and tree-shaded the core is: downtown Chico runs on a compact grid of brick storefronts, breweries and farmers-market stalls, and the leafy Avenues neighborhood next to campus has the kind of bungalows and craftsman homes that go quickly. Bidwell Park stretches for miles along Chico Creek right into town, so trailheads, swimming holes and the foothills are minutes from most front doors rather than a weekend trip away.

A Charlotte-to-Chico move usually lands people in the Avenues, downtown, or the newer subdivisions on the east side toward the foothills and Canyon Oaks, with nearby Paradise and the ridge communities continuing their steady rebuild and recovery from the 2018 Camp Fire. Housing sits well below Bay Area or coastal-California prices, which is a big part of the draw, and lots tend to be larger than what the same money buys inside Charlotte's 485 loop.
