The haul from Dallas to Chico is a long-distance run that Murdock’s Moving handles on our own USDOT authority, with a single Murdock’s crew loading in Dallas and the same crew unloading in Chico. We roll out of Dallas-Fort Worth on I-35W and US-287, climb the Texas Panhandle through Wichita Falls and Amarillo, then join I-40 West for the long desert stretch across New Mexico past Albuquerque and Gallup and into Arizona through Flagstaff and the high pine country.

From there the route crosses the Colorado River into California, drops toward Barstow, and swings north up the Central Valley on CA-99, following the valley floor past Sacramento and Yuba City before finishing in Chico. It's roughly 1,820 miles and 27 to 29 hours of driving, so we plan the move over several days with realistic transit windows rather than an impossible one-shot promise. Chico is a college town at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, built around California State University, Chico and the enormous, tree-shaded Bidwell Park that runs from downtown up into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. After the density and freeway sprawl of Dallas-Fort Worth, families landing in Chico tend to be struck by how walkable and bikeable the core of town is, and how quickly you're out of the neighborhoods and into oak-covered hills, creeks and swimming holes. The pace is slower, the downtown is independent-shop and farmers-market oriented, and the surrounding Butte County countryside is almonds, walnuts and rice rather than office parks.

Most Dallas households moving to Chico are landing in neighborhoods like the leafy Avenues near campus, the newer subdivisions off East Avenue and in northwest Chico, or the more rural parcels toward Durham and Paradise on the ridge. The town has worked hard to rebuild and absorb new residents since the 2018 Camp Fire, so you'll see fresh construction alongside century-old bungalows.
