CORRIDOR NOTES

What This Route Changes.

Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.

New York City to Chico is a true coast-to-coast relocation, and Murdock’s carries it the whole way on our own USDOT authority. Your shipment crosses the George Washington Bridge out of the metro area and joins Interstate 80 westbound, the highway that runs nearly the entire width of the country, through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Chicago, the Great Plains, Salt Lake City, and over the Sierra. Rather than continue into the city, the truck peels off north of Sacramento onto I-5 and CA-99, running up the Sacramento Valley into Butte County and Chico. It is close to 3,000 miles, the longest of our Northern California routes, so we build the plan around hours-of-service limits and mountain-weather windows.

As an owner-operated carrier rather than a broker, Murdock’s keeps your move with one truck and one crew from a Manhattan high-rise or a Brooklyn walk-up all the way to your door in Chico. Nothing is transferred to an interline partner or warehoused mid-country, which is where cross-country moves usually go wrong. The price is flat-rate and agreed before we load, so a 3,000-mile haul stays predictable. Most New York to Chico shipments deliver five to seven days after pickup, depending on load size and scheduling.

DESTINATION BRIEF

Arriving in Chico.

  • Home prices well below the California average and a fraction of New York City housing costs
  • A walkable, historic downtown and a genuine small-town pace after big-city density and commuting
  • California State University, Chico anchors a lively, youthful, community-minded town
  • Bidwell Park, Big Chico Creek, and the Sierra foothills put swimming, hiking, and biking minutes from home
  • Growing healthcare and education sectors provide steady local employment

Chico is a change of pace as much as a change of address, and for many New Yorkers that is exactly the point. This is a college town of tree-lined streets built around California State University, Chico, with a compact, genuinely walkable downtown of historic brick storefronts, cafes, breweries, galleries, and a Saturday farmers market, the kind of Main Street energy that draws students, families, professionals, and retirees alike.

At the town's edge sits Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country, threaded with swimming holes, hiking and biking trails, and Big Chico Creek, with the Sierra foothills rising just beyond. Neighborhoods run from the historic Avenues near campus and the walkable downtown core to family subdivisions in northwest Chico and quieter foothill homes toward Forest Ranch and Paradise. Chico is also a community that has weathered wildfire and taken in neighbors after the 2018 Camp Fire, so newcomers often find a tight, welcoming feel. A cross-country delivery here is typically a full unload into a single-family home or a place near campus, and we plan crew size, driveway and street access, and stairs around your specific address.

Home prices in Chico sit well below the California average, which is a large part of the draw, alongside outdoor recreation, a slower rhythm, and a walkable core that is a world away from a New York commute.
