CORRIDOR NOTES

What This Route Changes.

Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.

The move from Reno to Sacramento is one of the most direct interstate hauls in the West: a straight shot west on I-80 that climbs over Donner Summit, drops down past Truckee, Donner Lake and Emigrant Gap, and follows the American River corridor through Auburn and Roseville before landing in the Sacramento Valley. It is only about 132 miles, but it crosses the Sierra Nevada, so Murdock’s plans around Donner Pass weather, grade and chain-control season rather than treating it like a flat-valley run.

Because Murdock’s is an owner-operated carrier moving on our own USDOT 3421940 and CPUC Cal-T authority, the same truck and the same crew that wrap and load your home in Reno are the ones who unload it in Sacramento. Nothing gets handed to a broker, transferred to a linehaul terminal, or pooled with other people's shipments. With clear passes it is a same-day drive over the summit, and we schedule loading, transit and delivery so your household goods stay on one truck from door to door.

DESTINATION BRIEF

Arriving in Sacramento.

  • A larger, more diverse job market than Reno, anchored by state government, healthcare, education and a growing tech sector
  • More home for the money in many Sacramento suburbs, without giving up California residency, schools and services
  • A true urban lifestyle: walkable Midtown, a nationally recognized farm-to-fork food scene, arts and pro sports downtown
  • Central location within a two-hour drive of Lake Tahoe, the Bay Area, Napa Valley and the Sierra
  • Coming back to California to be near family, aging parents or adult children after time in Nevada

Sacramento is California's capital and the anchor of a fast-growing metro where the American and Sacramento rivers meet. For people leaving Reno it offers a genuinely urban downtown and a walkable, tree-shaded Midtown grid of Victorian flats, coffee houses and the farm-to-fork restaurant scene the city is known for, while still keeping you within a two-hour drive of Lake Tahoe, the Bay Area and Napa. It is a bigger, more diverse job market than Reno, weighted toward state government, healthcare, education and a growing tech and startup presence.

Where you land shapes the move. Midtown and East Sacramento mean narrow streets, street parking and older homes with stairs and no elevators, so our crew stages the truck and protects doorways and floors carefully. Suburban Sacramento is a different job entirely: Natomas, Elk Grove, Folsom, Roseville and Rocklin offer newer single-family homes, garages and driveways that make for a straightforward unload. Many Reno households moving here are trading a Nevada winter for river-close neighborhoods like Land Park, Curtis Park and the Pocket, or heading to the Folsom and El Dorado Hills foothills for space near the American River trail system.

Whether you are downsizing into a Midtown apartment or spreading out into an Elk Grove or Folsom house, Murdock’s handles the full move door to door: full-service packing, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and careful protection for stairs, tight streets and hardwood floors.
