Palermo got its start over a century ago as a planned citrus colony — the Palermo Land and Water Company platted orchard lots and sold them to families drawn by the mild foothill climate near Table Mountain. That early planning is still visible in the wide-spaced parcels along Nelson Avenue, the Oro-Bangor Highway, and the county roads east of Highway 70: citrus and olive trees, larger lots, and homes set well off the road. Present-day Palermo mixes older ranch homes, ranchettes with barns and outbuildings, and manufactured homes on permanent foundations, most on well water and septic rather than city utilities.

Rural Access Means Planning the Move Differently

A lot of Palermo driveways are gravel or packed dirt, some run several hundred feet back from the road, and cell coverage gets spotty in the pockets closest to Table Mountain — all things we confirm with the customer before dispatch day rather than discovering with a loaded truck.
