CORRIDOR NOTES

What This Route Changes.

Distances and drive times are planning estimates. Exact access, timing and delivery details are confirmed for each address before the move.

The move from San Diego to Sacramento is a straight shot up Interstate 5, roughly 510 miles that our crews cover in about eight to nine hours of driving. From the San Diego coast the route climbs north past Camp Pendleton and through the Orange County and Los Angeles basin, then hauls over the Grapevine at Tejon Pass before dropping into the wide-open San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys. The final stretch rolls past Stockton and the Delta farmland before crossing into the capital region.

Because Murdock’s Moving is an owner-operated carrier with our own USDOT and CPUC authority, the same truck and the same crew that load your home in San Diego are the ones who unload it in Sacramento. Your belongings are never handed off to a broker, a third-party line-haul carrier, or a shared trailer. On a haul this length that means one accountable team, one flat-rate quote, and a realistic delivery window rather than a vague multi-week spread.

DESTINATION BRIEF

Arriving in Sacramento.

  • Housing costs a fraction of San Diego's coastal prices, so the same budget buys a full single-family home with a yard instead of a condo
  • Sacramento is the seat of state government, anchoring stable public-sector, healthcare, and university employment
  • Far more space per dollar for growing families moving out of tight coastal rentals
  • Central location puts the Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, Napa, and the Sierra all within a short drive
  • A walkable, farm-to-fork Midtown and riverfront lifestyle without big-city coastal price tags

Sacramento is California's state capital and the urban anchor of the Sacramento Valley, and it has become one of the most popular landing spots for people leaving pricier coastal metros. Downtown and Midtown offer a genuinely walkable, grid-laid core full of tree-lined streets, farm-to-fork restaurants, and pre-war bungalows, while the neighborhoods radiating out give you far more house and yard than a San Diego budget buys near the beach.

Newcomers from San Diego tend to look at East Sacramento and Land Park for classic character homes, Natomas and North Natomas for newer construction, and the suburban belt of Elk Grove, Folsom, Roseville, and Rocklin for family-friendly schools and space. The city sits where the American and Sacramento Rivers meet, so kayaking, the American River Parkway bike trail, and the Delta are all part of everyday life, and the Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and Napa are each within a couple hours' drive.

A move into Sacramento usually means trading a compact coastal condo or apartment for a larger single-family home, so our crews are set up to handle the extra volume, longer driveways, and multi-story homes common in the suburbs. We coordinate delivery timing around HOA and apartment move-in rules that are common across Elk Grove, Folsom, and the Natomas developments.
